We are hiring

The Mondpalast hostel is located in the heart of Dresden's trendy district. The hostel has 100 beds, from private single rooms with bathroom to a 10-bed dormitory. The hostel is suitable for individual travellers, families and groups. There is a hostel bar on the ground floor where many events are held for locals and guests.
We have been in operation for 25 years now and have had a wonderful time inviting people from all over the world to stay with us and enjoy Dresden! Mondpalast is a place with a great vibe, atmosphere and culture! A big part of the success of our hostel is the hard work of our staff. We are looking for independent, social, friendly and responsible people to join our great team. Working at Mondpalast means not only making our guests happy, but also being part of an international, good-humoured and cosmopolitan team where we help and support each other.

night shift

- from now on or as soon as possible
- about 10-15 night shifts per month
- every day of the week, including weekends
- 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
- Reception, cleaning, preparing breakfast

You should speak English and some German. You should like to work with our hostel guest, but you should also be ready to clean the bar and toilets and to do some kitchen work. You will be working by your own, so you should be self-reliant, trustworthy and responsible.
Long term employment is preferred!

Receptionist and bar / café / service staff

These are your tasks:

  • Warmly looking after guests and assisting in all areas (reception, kitchen, café and bar).
  • Check-in, check-out, advice and communication with guests from all over the world
  • Processing reservations by telephone, e-mail and in person
  • Service at the bar and in the café
  • Helping with the preparation of breakfast
  • Setting up and replenishing the breakfast buffet
  • Preparation of drinks at the bar
  • Preparing coffees on the portafilter machine

Your skills:

  • You speak good English and German (other languages are of course welcome).
  • You are communicative and open, interested in other people, can actively approach other people and like to communicate with guests from all over the world.
  • You work independently and responsibly
  • You are a team player, helpful and friendly
  • You like to travel yourself, know and love hostels and have experience as a guest in hostels?
  • Ideally, you have already worked in the catering industry, at a bar, in a café or even in a hostel.
  • you can handle a stressful situation and stay calm and organised

These are the conditions:

  • You want to work at least 20 hours a week

Backoffice staff

These are your tasks:

  • Communicating with guests and contractual partners by e-mail and telephone
  • Making reservations
  • Preparing offers for groups and booking contracts
  • Handling cancellations and no-shows
  • Creating invoices and controlling incoming payments
  • Checking daily accounts, preparatory bookkeeping, providing change
  • Ordering food and beverages
  • Personnel planning and preparation of payrolls, maintenance of personnel records
  • Updating prices and minimum stays, possibly also revenue management
  • Updating information on our website, email templates and on external booking platforms

Your skills:

  • You speak and write good to very good English and German
  • You work independently, with concentration, accuracy and responsibility
  • You are a team player, helpful and friendly
  • training as a hotel clerk is an advantage, but not a must
  • Ideally, you have already worked in a hostel, youth hostel or hotel and know the procedures.

Operations Manager

These are your tasks:

  • As a confidant of the management you are the contact person and coordination point for the various tasks around the operation of the hostel.
  • Cordial care of the guests and assistance in all areas (reception, kitchen, café and bar)
  • Cooperative collaboration with various departments (reception, bar, kitchen, janitor, room cleaning)
  • Ensuring a smooth operational flow
  • Finding a suitable solution for every situation
  • Handling booking requests by phone and e-mail
  • Communicating with guests
  • Optimizing the occupancy in the PMS
  • Creating booking contracts for groups
  • Control of incoming payments for deposits, creating invoices
  • Control of the daily accounts of the employees

  • Posting receipts for purchases and from daily closings
  • Personnel planning and duty scheduling
  • Instructing and training new employees
  • Providing feedback to employees on their daily tasks
  • Contact person for our employees
  • Purchasing and economic management of food, beverages, work materials and cleaning materials
  • Control of the proper and cost-conscious use of materials
  • Arrangement and reporting of necessary repairs to our janitor
  • Organizing and controlling the proper handling and storage of lost and found items
  • Respond to reviews and show that we care about the well-being of our guests
  • Handle complaints with drive

This is your profile:

  • you have an understanding and heart for hostels, backpackers, young individual traveling
  • ideally professional experience in a similar position, but not mandatory
  • experience in the field of hotel business / tourism / gastronomy
  • a completed apprenticeship in the hotel industry / gastronomy, ideally as hotel clerk desirable, but not mandatory
  • Enjoy dealing with young people in a relaxed, uncomplicated, international atmosphere with a "Duz" culture
  • Independent working style, ability to work in a team as well as organizational and cooperation skills, willingness to learn
  • a positive, optimistic charisma, pleasure in dealing with a wide variety of people from different countries
  • You like to take responsibility and stay calm, even in challenging situations
  • Friendly and courteous behavior towards guests and colleagues and high service orientation
  • General computer skills for the office

These are your tasks:

  • Preparation and serving of beverages
  • Training new employees
